Private liberal arts college
USD 67,550 (2026/27)
Puget Sound is a liberal arts college in Tacoma, Washington, between the Olympic and Cascade ranges and close to Seattle, combining a liberal arts curriculum with Schools of Music and Business and Leadership. It is one of five independent colleges in the Northwest granted a Phi Beta Kappa charter. Merit consideration is automatic and renewable for up to five years, which is unusual — most institutions cap at four. Two full-tuition scholarships exist, the Lillis and the Matelich, but both REQUIRE standardised test scores for scholarship selection even though admission itself is test-optional. The critical limit for a Kazakh applicant is that need-based aid runs entirely through the FAFSA, which a non-citizen cannot file, and Puget Sound states that international students 'must not depend upon earnings from employment, anticipated financial assistance, or scholarship grants' when evidencing funds.
