Wichita State is a public research university with over 200 programmes across seven colleges and roughly 21,000 students, including 1,600 international students from more than 100 countries. Two things make it unusually accessible. It will consider any undergraduate applicant for admission without proof of English proficiency, requiring it only before full-time study begins. Its Global Select Scholarship is automatic and structural rather than a fixed sum. WSU describes it as giving international students 'a substantial discount on tuition that's equivalent to 150% of the tuition rate that students from Kansas pay', so instead of the full non-resident rate a qualifying Kazakh student pays one and a half times the in-state rate. A secondary source puts the effect at a 36% tuition reduction, roughly USD 4,800 a year, awarded automatically at a 3.0 grade average and renewed automatically to the end of the programme.
